The hungry eagle brings its young to mate,
High in the boughs where quiet shadows wait,
To seek the calm of life’s unhurried grace
And spare its brood a bruised and bitter race.
Beneath the sun, where transient bodies lie,
Watched by the hungry gazers of the sky,
All creatures hunt to fill their daily need
Where primal instincts prompt the act and deed.
Upon the banyan’s ancient stem and shade,
The eagle rests where fleeting time is stayed,
To catch the breath of hours left behind
Before the rushing world drives swift and blind.
For life moves on and fades into the grey,
On the ox’s back where quiet shadows stray,
By the camel’s track where desert winds depart,
Into the deep sea’s unreturning heart.
