From sixty-four, a vision born and cast,
A shield to break the shadows of the past.
Within the halls where global trade is spun,
The General Assembly wove a thread begun:
UNCTAD rose, a beacon for the new,
To grant the nascent states their rightful due,
To stir the pace of growth where poverty reigned,
And break the chains where wealthy giants gained.
For older forums wore a biased crown,
Where urban, rich dominions laid terms down.
The developing world, in longing and in need,
Required a stage to plant a fairer seed—
A dedicated home to face their plight,
To step from shadow into balanced light.
They sought stable prices for the goods they bore,
Preferences, investments, and an open door.
A proud pavilion for the global poor,
It led the North and South to balance score.
Yet years roll by, and tides of history turn;
The structures shift, and newer lessons are learned.
No longer just a forum filled with prose,
It meets the stark realities that arose.
From sixty-four to ninety-six, the thread
Revealed a path where Third World nations led.
They formed the Group of Seventy-Seven strong,
To face the rich and right the systemic wrong.
By eighty-three, the global lens widened its view,
As the World Bank and the Fund took roles anew.
By ninety-two, the market’s sweeping grace
And pluralistic politics took their place.
To live, adapt, and keep its mission clear,
The forum reformed to meet a modern sphere—
A vital tool that nations must sustain,
To turn the wheels of economic gain.
